Self Care Is Important. Especially For Mums.

With the cold weather drawing in, and the children both already full of colds I’m on a mission to take care of us all as well as possible this Winter.

In past years, this would have involved me running myself ragged taking care of everyone else, but forgetting that I need to take care of me too. So this year I’m determined to do a little better. After all, as a good friend pointed out last week, if we crumble the whole house of cards quickly comes down too.

So I’m determined to make a difference with the small things:

I’m going to eat a little more healthily.

I may not manage to cut out the chocolate but I am definitely going to make more of an effort to ensure that I eat more fruit and vegetables alongside it.

I’m going to cut out the fizzy drinks.

Sparkling water here I come. The Diet Coke habit has definitely got out of hand.

I’m going to try to have a relaxing bath at least once a week.

I might even get round to shaving my legs and painting my nails. All children banned. A relaxing bath definitely doesn’t count as one where plastic ducks accompany me in the tub!

I’m going to make time to read just for pleasure.

Before I went on holiday I hadn’t read a novel since the little man was born, and if I’m honest I hadn’t realised just how much I’d missed it.

I’m going to go to the doctor if I need one.

Even if that means using an online service. After all if it was one of the children I would make sure I made time to get them checked out.

I’m going to stop working after nine p.m.

I’ll have a cuddle with the Other Half and mentally allow my brain to relax and wind down a little before trying to sleep. We all deserve a little time just for us.

I’m going to try to stop worrying about the little things.

Learn to go with the flow, and let life Pan out the way it’s intended a little bit more.

How about you, what changes would you make to achieve a healthier balance this autumn?
